CATEGORIES:Call for proposal
DESCRIPTION:Cyber-threats have been accelerating due to the exponential gr
owth of network connectivity. These new capabilities provide myriad opport
unities for security hackers to wreak significant damage for commercial\,
political\, or other gains.\n\nTo promote research and education in cyber-
defence\, EPFL\, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne\, a
nd the Cyber-Defence (CYD) Campus have jointly launched the “CYD Fellows
hips – A Talent Program for Cyber-Defence Research.” There are two cal
ls per year and the seventh call is now open.\nCYD Fellowships are designe
d to promote new solutions to major challenges in the fields of security a
nd data science by bringing together basic and applied research. They are
open to researchers at master\, doctoral\, or postdoctoral level who are w
illing to engage with innovative issues in cyber-defence\, with a particul
ar emphasis on:\n\n	Protection of confidentiality\, integrity\, and availa
bility of cyber and cyber-physical systems\n	Information sharing\, data fu
sion and crowdsourcing\n	Data science & AI methods for analysing cyber- an
 d technology-relevant data\n	Security\, privacy and digital trust technolo
gies.\n\nBy encouraging the training of the next generation of leading res
earchers in Switzerland\, the CYD Fellowships will accelerate the developm
ent of cyber security and privacy solutions\, improving defenders’ capab
ilities vis-à-vis attackers. In fostering synergies between university-ba
sed researchers and cyber-defence stakeholders and promoting the testing o
f new solutions\, they will increase the competitiveness of the Swiss cybe
r-defence community.\n\nFunding is available for six-month CYD Master Thes
is Fellowships (living allowance and research funds)\; four-year (with a p
ossible one-year extension) CYD Doctoral Fellowships (salary and research
and conference funds)\; and up to two-year CYD Distinguished Postdoctoral
Fellowships (salary and research and conference funds). CYD fellows are ho
sted by a higher education institution in Switzerland and conduct their re
search at the CYD Campus located on the premises of EPFL and ETHZ and in i
ts office in Thun.\n\nThe CYD Campus is a cyber-competence center created
by the Swiss Federal Department of Defence\, Civil Protection and Sport. I
t acts as an anticipation platform for identifying and assessing technolog
ies\, commercial and social cyber trends\, as well as the subsequent usage
scenarios. It is committed to innovative\, application-oriented research
and works to translate research findings into solutions alongside start-up
s and the established companies in the field of security.\n\nThe CYD Fello
wships are supported by armasuisse Science and Technology.\n\nThe seventh
call for proposals is now open with a rolling call for Master Thesis Fello
wship applications\, and with a deadline for Doctoral and Distinguished Po
 stdoctoral Fellowship applications on 15 February 2023 (17:00 CEST).\n\nAn
online applicant workshop will be held on 25 January 2023 from 10:00 to 1
0:45 CEST. The event registration form can be accessed here.\n
