DESCRIPTION:The Swiss National Science Foundation has announced its annual
  edition of the “SNSF Scientific Image Competition” for images and sho
 rt videos from the world of research. The award-winning works are announce
 d in April or May\, displayed in an exhibition at the Biel/Bienne Festival
  of Photography and made available to the public and the media\, as well a
 s to scientific institutions.\n\nThe competition gives the public an uncon
 ventional view of research. It invites all researchers to document the oft
 en unusual environment they work in\, as well as any special tools and ins
 truments\, and to capture unexpected occurrences on film or make a photo o
 f the research team at work.\n\nPrize: a CHF 1’000 prize will be awarded
  to the winners in each of the following categories:\n\n	Object of study\n
 	Research locations and instruments \n	Women and men of science\n	Video lo
 op\n\nIn addition\, the jury will award distinctions worth CHF 250 each.\n
 \nWho can apply:\n\n\n	scientists working at higher education institutions
  or research institutions in Switzerland.\n\n\nRestrictions: \n\n\n	Each p
 articipant may submit from 1 to 5 entries.\n	Works by professional photogr
 aphers are not accepted.\n	Employees of the communication departments of r
 esearch institutions\;\n	The works must have been produced less than 12 mo
 nths before the deadline for submitting entries.\n\nDeadline: 31 January 2
