 do Giacconi’s Animal\, is the result of intensive research around artist
 ic and scientific questions at the boundary between human and machine\, ca
 rried out in EPFL’s robotics laboratories.\n \n\n	OPENING in the presen
 ce of the artist: \n	Thursday\, January 12\, 6pm\n	 \n	EXHIBITION:\n	Janu
 ary 13 to 29\, 2023\, Tuesday to Sunday\, 11am to 6pm\n\nPart of Giacconi
 ’s project Rational and Irrational Numbers\, the video explores the conc
 ept of animation. Creating a parallel between the “uncanny valley” (Ma
 sahiro Mori\, 1970) of the ancient tradition of puppetry and recent techno
 logical developments in robotics and artificial intelligence\, Animal is i
 nspired by a series of conversations with scientists and researchers. Foot
 age from the EPFL alternates with images from the Carlo Colla & Figli Mari
 onette Company in Milan and other sources from the artist’s archive.\n\n
 The work enables a leap of faith\, a suspension of disbelief\, as it recon
 ciles the hyper-contemporary and the ancient in an enigmatic sequence\, ge
 nerating in the resonance and the distance between the two worlds a broade
 r reflection on technology and its scientific and philosophical implicatio
