DESCRIPTION:Frank Vollmer\, Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light\
 , Erlangen\, Germany\nOptical resonator biosensors (optical microcavities)
are emerging as one of the most sensitive microsystem biodetection techno
logy that does not require amplification or labeling of the analyte. I wil
l give an overview of the exciting possibilities provided by this highly s
ensitive technique for molecular diagnostics\, nanoparticle detection and
-manipulation. I will then talk about the prospects of boosting sensitivit
y with plasmonic nanoantennas - bringing label-free single molecule detect
ion within reach. Furthermore\, I will introduced the concept of disordere
d photonic crystal structures to obtain Anderson-localized light fields th
at can be used in sensing as well as for 'designing' random lasers.
