DESCRIPTION:Laurent Côté\, Harvard University\nSeminar in Mathematics\nA
bstract: Triangulated categories are certain algebraic structures which we
re first defined in the 1960s independently by Puppe and Verdier. They hav
e the virtue of appearing naturally in many areas of mathematics\, includi
ng in  symplectic geometry\, algebraic geometry\, and representation the
ory. The general perspective of non-commutative geometry proposes to view
triangulated categories (or better\, their homotopy-coherent enhancements)
as ''noncommutative spaces".  I will discuss some aspects of this perspe
ctive\, illustrating it by various examples drawn from my own research.\n
