DESCRIPTION:Professor Dr. Thomas R. Ward\, Department of Chemistry\, Unive
rsity of Basel\nArtificial metalloenzymes (ArMs) have attracted increasing
attention in the past two decades as \nattractive alternatives to either
homogeneous catalysts or enzymes. Artificial metalloenzymes \nresult fro
m anchoring a catalytically competent abiotic metal cofactor within a host
protein\, \nFigure. The resulting ArMs combine attractive features of bo
th homogeneous- and bio-catalysts. \nImportantly\, they enable access to
new-to- nature reactions in a cellular environment.\nRelying on supramolec
ular anchoring of an organometallic cofactor in a variety of protein \nsc
affolds\, we have optimized the performance of ArMs for sixteen different
reactions.\nFollowing a general introduction to the underlying principles
of ArMs\, this talk will highlight our \nrecent progress in engineering a
nd evolving such hybrid catalysts for olefin  metathesis\,  C–H  \nac
 tivation\,  hydroamination\,  and  allylic  substitution.  A\nparticu
lar emphasis will be set on performing catalysis in a cellular environment
