CATEGORIES:Call for proposal
DESCRIPTION:Aim: Through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Pro
gram (CDMRP)\, the Department of Defense is announcing the Breast Cancer R
esearch Program (BCRP) Awards. Several award programs are available:\n\n	T
he Breakthrough Awards supports promising research that has high potential
to lead to or make breakthroughs in breast cancer. The Breakthrough Award
is structured with four different funding levels. Each level has a define
 d research scope :\n	\n Funding Level 1: Innovative\, high-risk/high-rew
ard research that is in the earliest stages of idea development or is an u
ntested theory that addresses an important problem.\n Funding Level 2: Re
search that is already supported by substantial preliminary or published d
ata and strongly validates clinical translation in a well-defined context
within the breast cancer landscape.\n Funding Level 3: Advanced translati
onal studies with a high degree of project readiness.\n Funding Level 4:
Large-scale projects that will transform and revolutionize the clinical ma
nagement and/or prevention of breast cancer. Human clinical trials are req
uired.\n	\n	\n	The Clinical Research Extension Award aims to extend the da
ta collection\, follow-up\, and analysis of breast cancer clinical researc
h studies. Proposed research may entail a deeper molecular analysis of cli
nical samples\, initiation of new correlative studies\, biomarker validati
on\, or continuing clinical follow-up of patients currently/previously enr
olled in an open/ongoing or completed clinical trial.\n	The Era of Hope Sc
holar Award supports individuals early in their careers who have demonstra
ted significant potential to effect meaningful change in breast cancer. Th
ese individuals should be exceptionally talented scientists who have shown
that they are the “best and brightest” in their field(s)\n	The Innova
tor Award supports visionary individuals who have demonstrated exceptional
creativity\, innovative work\, and paradigm-shifting leadership in any fi
eld including\, but not limited to\, breast cancer. The Innovator Award wi
ll provide these individuals with the funding and freedom to pursue their
most novel\, visionary\, high-risk ideas that could accelerate progress to
ending breast cancer.\n\n\nAll applications for BCRP funding must specifi
cally address at least one of the Overarching Challenges as directed by Co
ngress and have direct relevance to military health. The FY23 BCRP Challen
ges are listed at the end of this announcement.\n\nFunding:       Bre
 akthrough 1 – $450K - $750K\nBreakthrough 2 – $1M - $1.5M\nBreakthroug
 h 3 – $4M - $5M\nBreakthrough 4 – max. $15M\nClinical Research Extensi
 on – $5M - $6M\nEra of Hope – max. $3M\nInnovator – max. $7M\n\nDura
 tion:      Breakthrough 1 – 3 years\nBreakthrough 2 – 3-4 years\nB
 reakthrough 3 – 4 years\nBreakthrough 4 – 4 years\nClinical Research E
 xtension – 4 years\nEra of Hope – 4 years\nInnovator – 4 years\n\nEl
igibility: Applicants from international organizations or institutions are
eligible to apply\, and there are no citizenship restrictions. All invest
igators at or above the level of postdoctoral fellow (or equivalent) are e
ligible for the Breakthrough Awards and Clinical Research Extension Awards
. All investigators at or above the level of assistant professor (or equiv
alent) are eligible for the Era of Hope Awards. All investigators at or ab
ove the level of associate professor (or equivalent) are eligible for the
Innovator Awards.\n\nHow to Apply: Pre-applications are submitted through
the eBRAP platform. They should contain contact information\, a letter of
intent\, and a list of collaborators and key personnel as suggested on the
platform. Full applications will be made via a Grants.gov workspace. Appl
ication packages can be downloaded from Grants.gov at any time.\n\nGrants.

susceptibility\n	Distinguish deadly from non-deadly breast cancers\n	Conq
uer the problems of overdiagnosis and overtreatment\n	Identify what drives
breast cancer growth\; determine how to stop it\n	Identify why some breas
t cancers become metastatic\n	Determine why/how breast cancer cells lie do
rmant for years and then re-emerge\; determine how to prevent lethal recur
rence\n	Revolutionize treatment regimens by replacing them with ones that
are more effective\, less toxic\, and impact survival\n	Eliminate the mort
ality associated with metastatic breast cancer\n
