 WM)\nIn recent years quantum computing has become a reality with many devi
 ces available for public access. This sparked a competition to develop the
  first application with a quantifiable advantage\, bringing together exper
 ts from a variety of disciplines\, including physics\, mathematics\, compu
 ter science\, finance\, chemistry\, and more. Unfortunately\, exaggerated 
 claims and unreasonable expectations are an unfavorable side effect of thi
 s innovative new technology. In this talk\, we will discuss what quantum c
 omputing is\, how it could be used for numerical simulation and what is ac
 tually possible today. The presentation will be on an introductory level f
 or an audience not familiar with quantum computing. In addition\, I'll mak
 e an effort to outline the current state of the field and list open resear
 ch issues.
