DESCRIPTION:Prof. Amin CHABCHOUB Amin received a MSc in Applied Mathematic
 s / Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bremen (Germany)\, a PhD
  from Hamburg University of Technology (Germany) and is currently Associat
 e Professor at Kyoto University's Hakubi Center for Advanced Research & Di
 saster Prevention Research Institute. He previously had an Associate Prof
 essor appointment in Environmental Fluid Mechanics at the School of Civil 
 Engineering of the University of Sydney (Australia) and was Assistant Prof
 essor of Hydrodynamics at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Aalt
 o University (Finland). Prior to these faculty roles\, he was a Postdoctor
 al Researcher at Imperial College London (UK)\, Swinburne University of Te
 chnology (Australia)\, and The University of Tokyo (Japan). His areas of e
 xpertise and research interests include extreme waves\, solitons\, nonline
 ar dynamics\, and physical oceanography.\n\n\nAbstract:\n“The formation 
 of wave localizations in nonlinear dispersive media can be described by we
 akly nonlinear evolution equations such as the nonlinear Schrödinger equ
 ation (NLSE). Within the class of exact NLSE breather solutions on a finit
 e background\, the hierarchy of rational solutions\, localized in both tim
 e and space\, are considered to provide appropriate prototypes to model ex
 treme wave dynamics on the water surface\, plasma and electromagnetic Kerr
  media. The talk will focus on the applicability and limitations of hydrod
 ynamic solitons and breathers in unidirectional and directional wave syste
 ms. The time-reversal invariance and the effect of dissipation on the evol
 ution of such wave packets will be also elaborated upon. Moreover\, the cr
 itical role of breathers in wave engineering applications will be highligh
