DESCRIPTION:AIM: The Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Advanced Scienti
fic Computing Research (ASCR) announces its interest in receiving applicat
ions to improve our understanding of whether\, when\, and how quantum comp
uting might advance the frontiers of computational science.\nSpecifically\
, the purpose of this FOA is to invite applications for basic research to
address the following questions:\n\n1. What can fundamental physical limit
s on quantum processors tell us about what quantum computers can and canno
t do?\n2. How can we use Noisy Intermediate-Scale Quantum (NISQ) devices t
o move our understanding of when and how quantum computers might be useful
as far forward as possible?\n3. How can we assess the utility of a given
(existing or hypothetical) quantum processor for advancing the frontiers o
 f computational science?\n\nDEADLINE: Required Pre-application: March 31\,
2023\, full applications are due on May 3\, 2023\nELIGIBILITY: U.S. appli
cants may propose EPFL PIs as subrecipient in their applications.\nAMOUNT:
Ceiling $300\,000 per year for a single institution\, $600\,000 per year
 for a multi-institutional team\, floor is $50\,000 per year.\nHOW TO APPLY
: Get in touch with potential partners in the U.S.\nFOR FURTHER INFORMATIO
N: please refer to the FOA document in grants.gov.\nYou can also contact t
he DOE program manager Dr. Claire Cramer (claire.cramer@science.doe.gov )
or the Research Office at EPFL.\n
