CATEGORIES:Conferences - Seminars
DESCRIPTION:Speakers\nScientific discoveries undoubtedly play an essential
role in shaping the future of society\, but there is still a significant
gap between science and policymaking. The COVID-19 pandemic and the recent
energy crisis due to the war in Ukraine have shown the importance of effi
cient collaboration between scientists and politicians. This summer schoo
l aims to illustrate how natural sciences and engineering impact society\,
influence public policymakers and how to bridge the gap between them.\n\n
Through a five-day program\, participants will learn:\n\n	Why is Open Sci
ence (OS) a prerequisite for scientists approaching policymakers and the
general public?\n	How do scientists whose research tackles topics of publ
ic interest consider policymaking\, identify the challenges\, and how do
they overcome them?\n	How do different stakeholders\, such as scientific
advisors\, journalists and policymakers working for (non)-governmental as
sociations\, experience science impacting public decisions?\n	Which form
ats to communicate science to non-scientific audiences are available\, an
d how can everyone effectively communicate scientific findings to relevant
parties?\n	How do public engagement and regulatory frameworks empower
scientific findings?\n\nThe summer school is open to all PhD students and
is worth 2 ECTS. Spots are limited and registration will close on May 1st
