DESCRIPTION:Prof. Stefana Parascho\nDate: 10 May 2023\nTime: 17:30 - 18:45
\nIntroductions by the Dean\, lectures by Prof. Olga Fink and Prof. Stefan
 a Parascho. Followed by an Apero.\nPlace: CO2\nZoom link\n\nTitle:\nFrom A
utomation to Collaboration\nRepositioning Robots in Design and Constructio
n\n\nAbstract\nDigital tools for design and construction have been mainly
following two goals: automating analogue processes and materialising compl
ex geometries. Robotics can create new opportunities if we shift from top-
down processes\, to collaborative\, adaptable and intuitive ones that purp
osely make space for human interaction\, reflection and creativity.\nRobot
s working cooperatively\, humans and robots building together\, designers
creating along with machines – the presented work explores the various r
elationships between humans and machines\, between software and hardware\,
and between efficiency and the needs of our built environment. From scaff
old-free assembly to robots employed for material reuse and computational
tools designed to ease interdisciplinary knowledge exchange – the goal i
s to move beyond narratives of efficiency and towards more open and inclus
ive approaches that can better link technology to societal and environment
al challenges. Ultimately\, this requires the exploration of new roles for
machines\, new relationships between humans\, algorithms and robots\, and
new connections across disciplines.\n\nAbout the speaker\nStefana Parasch
o is a researcher\, architect\, and educator whose work lies at the inter
section of architecture\, digital fabrication and computational design. Sh
e is currently an Assistant Professor at EPFL where she founded the Lab fo
r Creative Computation (CRCL).\nThrough her research\, she has explored mu
lti-agent fabrication methods\, and their relationship to architecture. He
r current research focuses on human-robot collaborative processes and the
relationship between robotic construction and the built environment. Her g
oal is to strengthen the interdisciplinary nature of the field by increasi
ng accessibility of digital tools and connecting technical research with s
ocietal aspects.\nBefore joining EPFL\, Stefana was an Assistant Professor
at Princeton University\, where she led the CREATE Lab Princeton. She com
pleted her doctorate in 2019 at ETH Zurich\, Gramazio Kohler Research. Pre
viously\, she received her Diploma in Architectural Engineering from the U
niversity of Stuttgart and worked with DesignToProduction Stuttgart and Kn
 ippers Helbig Advanced Engineering.\n\n\n
