 ass\, the energy function involves interaction \nterms between all pairs 
 of spins. A bipartite version of this model can \nbe obtained by splittin
 g the spins into two groups\, which we can \nvisualize as forming two lay
 ers\, and by keeping only interaction terms \nthat go from one to the oth
 er layer. For this and other models that \nincorporate a finite number of
  types of spins\, the asymptotic behavior \nof the free energy remains ma
 thematically mysterious. I will present the \ndifficulties arising there\
 , and some partial progress.\n
