 Ho Chi Minh City (hereafter HCMC) is located in the South of Vietnam\, and
  is the biggest city in Vietnam. Exploitation rate of freshwater sources h
 as increased since early 1990 as Vietnam economy policy opened. Excess gro
 undwater exploitation for domestic and industrial uses leads to groundwate
 r table drawdown\, water quality depletion\, salt intrusion and water shor
 tage in dry season in Ho Chi Minh City. Moreover\, untreated wastewater di
 scharge and huge fresh water exploitation from industrial\, residential an
 d agricultural activities of provinces in the upstream of Saigon and Dong 
 Nai rivers have resulted in degradation of surface water quality. To mitig
 ate the above negative impacts and to conserve the fresh water resources f
 or sustainable development in the future\, HCMC have set up strategies\, p
 olicies and action plans for integrated water resources management.
