DESCRIPTION:To measure human biology\, we need to understand the mysteries
of the cell and how cells interact within and as systems. Metabolic physi
ology goes beyond studying metabolic pathways in isolation and instead see
ks to integrate time and space to understand how metabolism regulates coor
 dinated action among molecules\, organelles\, cells\, tissues\, and organi
sms. Addressing these multi-factorial problems requires diverse experiment
al and technological approaches. Mapping\, measuring\, and integrating met
abolism across scales and systems is a path to understanding various facet
s of human physiology and addressing many common and rare diseases.\nThe
Measuring Metabolism Across Scales RFA will support two-year collaborativ
e research projects focused on measuring and understanding metabolism acro
ss organelles and cells.\nThis opportunity is intended to support active c
ollaborative teams of researchers with access to established resources rea
dy to be extended\, scaled\, and applied to address key biological questio
ns in the field of metabolism or metabolic physiology in health and diseas
 e. The opportunity also aims to support new collaborative teams focused on
bridging multiple biology fields to accelerate metabolism research and th
e development of new tools to measure human biology.\n\nFunding:
  \n\n	Expanded Projects:  US$ 500\,000\n	Focused Projects:  US$250\,000
 \n\n\nDuration:      24 months\n\nEligibility:\n \n\n	Applications m
ay be submitted by domestic and foreign nonprofit organizations\, includin
g public and private institutions\n	For-profit organizations are not eligi
ble to receive funding but may be involved in projects as a collaborator\n
Teams may include a total of three PIs. Each application must have one Co
ordinating PI\, but may designate up to three total PIs (one Coordinating
PI and up to two Co-PIs). All additional PIs should be listed as Co-PIs.\n
At least one Principal Investigator of the team must have expertise in me
tabolism or another related field.\n	PIs/Co-PIs on one application may be
employed at the same or different institutions.\n	Tenure track faculty are
eligible\, as well as Nnon-tenure track faculty or staff scientists who l
ead a lab or are engaged in academic activities and are permitted to apply
for grants by their institution\;\n	Researchers with expertise in the rel
evant areas that are affiliated with or supported by an institution and pe
rmitted to apply for grants\; and\n	Co-PIs from companies are permitted as
long as no funds are requested to support them or their work.\n	Early-car
eer investigators are strongly encouraged to apply as Coordinating PIs and
Co-PIs.\n\n\n\n\n\nHow to Apply:\n\n\n	All applications must be completed
and submitted through CZI’s online grants management portal at https:/
/apply.chanzuckerberg.com.\n	It is recommended that applicants familiarize
themselves with this portal well in advance of the application deadline.
Detailed application instructions are available in the Detailed Applicati
ons Instructions section below\, as well as in the grants management port
 al.\n\nDeadline:     \n\n\n	01 June 2023: Applications due by 5 p.m.
Pacific Time (PT)\n	Mid-October 2023: Earliest notification decisions (sub
ject to change)\n	01 December 2023: Expected start date (subject to change
)\n\nFurther information:\n\n\n	Chan Zuckerberg Initiative Measuring Metab
olism Across Scales webpage\n	Please contact the Research Office for addit
 ional information.\n
