 ore May 11\, 2023.\n\n \n\nThis month\, Dr Alan Bowman will give a talk 
 on his work "Combining photoluminescence and first principles modelling t
 o probe nanoscale interfaces " :\n\nLight driven machines\, including sola
 r cells\, photochemical and photoelectrochemical devices\, are being rapid
 ly developed as we transition towards a zero carbon society. Interfaces pl
 ay a key role in these devices and must be optimised in order to achieve h
 igh efficiencies\, requiring a combination of state-of-the-art measurement
  techniques and modelling. In this talk I present an example of the power 
 of combining photoluminescence and first principles modelling.\n\nEnabling
  efficient triplet charge transfer between singlet fission materials and h
 alide perovskite semiconductors is key to realising a new form of highly e
 fficient solar panel. Here we applied photoluminescence to observe this ch
 arge transfer. Our results motivated us to simulate two-particle excited s
 tates at this interface\, which revealed bottlenecks for charge transfer a
 nd identified new routes to better control the interface.\n\nThis works sh
 owcases the potential of combining spectroscopy and DFT within a single st
 udy\, and\, excitingly\, at comparable length scales. Ultimately this enab
 les new approaches to optimise sustainability-related devices.  \n\n\n\n-
