CATEGORIES:Call for proposal
DESCRIPTION:\nFunding for projects seeking to address key fundamental ques
tions to drive the measurement\, modelling and testing capabilities needed
to advance new methods of promoting healthy\, whole lives into older age.
\n\nFull program announcement\n\nAmount : \n\n	Award amounts will be dep
endent on specific proposals and work selected for funding.\n	There are no
  pre-set number of awards.\n	US$60\,000\,000 funds will be awarded.\n\n\nI
 mportant Dates: \n\n\n	Submission Deadline: 25 May 2023 \n\n	\n 7-page ab
stracts submitted (from individual organizations or teams) that address on
 e or more program areas.\n	\n	\n	Abstract Feedback:  09 June 2023\n	\n A
ll submissions will receive technical and/or programmatic feedback as well
as a recommendation to submit or not submit a full proposal.\n	\n	\n	Prop
osal decision : 09 August 2023\n	\n All submissions will receive a ‘sel
ected for funding’ or ‘not selected for funding’ decision. Those sel
ected will proceed to contract signature as the final gate with work expec
 ted to commence within approximately 30 days.\n	\n	\n\nDuration :  minim
 um of 3 years (with a potential additional one-year option)\nEligiblity :
\n \n\n	Performers from universities and research institutions: small\, m
edium and large companies (including venture-backed)\; and government or n
on-profit research organizations are invited to propose.\n	Wellcome Leap a
ccepts project proposals from any legal entity\, based in any legal jurisd
 iction\, including academic\, non-profit\, for-profit\, and regulatory/pro
fessional organizations.\n	Note: Multiple collaborators can be on a single
submission\, but only the Principal Investigator will be able to submit t
he application on the portal.\n\n\nThrust Areas: \n \n\n	Discover and int
egrate markers of human dynamic resilience that identify individuals prior
to a stress event (SE) with prediction accuracy of >85% sensitivity and >
 90% specificity for clinical outcomes post-SE (e.g.\, return to health\, f
 railty progression\, loss of independence\, death). \n	Develop multi-scal
e models that link the biomarkers predictive of loss of steady state and d
ynamic resilience to mechanism. It will be necessary to show that identifi
ed mechanisms (some of which may overlap with known hallmarks of ageing) e
ither promote and maintain homeostasis\, or are causative of resilience lo
ss. Such models and demonstration of mechanism can be at the cellular\, ti
ssue\, system\, or whole-body scale.\n	Validate the clinical and developme
ntal utility of measures\, models\, and candidate preventative interventio
ns to promote resilience in at-risk populations by undertaking specific\,
targeted trials. Of particular interest are trials involving preventative
interventions in older adults prior to predictable stress events such as e
lective laparoscopic or orthopaedic surgery\, or cancer therapy and that f
ocus both on demonstrating pre-stressor predictive clinical outcome accura
cy of >85% sensitivity and >90% specificity with respect to frailty progre
ssion and interventions that seek at least a 25% reduction in the number o
f patients showing frailty progression following the stress event.\n\n\nHo
w to Apply :\n \n\n	Download guidelines\n	Download abstract template (an
d cost and schedule template)\n	We (Wellcome Leap) will remind you when th
e application portal opens on 18 May.\n	Upload your abstract and submit yo
ur application before 25 May at 11:59pm ET.\n	More details will be provide
d for the proposal round of submissions.\n\n\nFor further information:\n
\n\n	FAQ’s:  If you have questions\, please review the FAQ Section (thi
s was updated 25 April 2023.\n	Send inquires to DR@wellcomeleap.org\n	The
Research Office for EPFL related questions\n\n\n\n\n
