DESCRIPTION:Dr Karla Lienau\,\nSonova AG\nAbstract\nAdditive Manufacturing
or 3D printing has been a hot topic with many new developments the last 2
0-30 years and still is. Even though its many advantages like low material
usage\, sustainability and great variety of producible shapes\, injection
molding is often still the preferred manufacturing method due to consider
ably lower prices per unit for large batch sizes. Additive manufacturing i
s often seen as prototyping method. I want to share why this is not the ca
se in parts of the hearing aid industry\, show you how such parts are prod
uced and why additive manufacturing is the method of choice here.\n\nAbout
the speaker\nKarla Lienau (BS: 2012 Chemistry at University of Zurich\, M
Sc: 2014 Chemistry at ETHZ\, PhD: 2020 Solid state Chemistry / Catalysis a
t University of Zurich) has been working as a research engineer at Sonova
AG since 2020. In this role\, she develops and/or evaluates new materials\
, coatings and technologies\, with a focus on custom manufacturing of shel
ls for earmolds and in-the-ear hearing aids and also performs biological s
afety evaluations according to ISO 10993-1:2018.\n
