DESCRIPTION:Cyber-threats have been accelerating due to the exponential gr
owth of network connectivity. These new capabilities provide myriad opport
unities for security hackers to wreak significant damage for commercial\,
political\, or other gains.\nTo promote research and education in cyber-de
fence\, EPFL\, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne\, and
the Cyber-Defence (CYD) Campus have jointly launched the “CYD Fellowshi
ps – A Talent Program for Cyber-Defence Research.” There are two calls
per year and the eight call is now open.\n\nCYD Fellowships are designed
to promote new solutions to major challenges in the fields of security and
data science by bringing together basic and applied research. They are op
en to researchers at master\, doctoral\, or postdoctoral level who are wil
ling to engage with innovative issues in cyber-defence\, with a particular
emphasis on:\n\n	Protection of confidentiality\, integrity\, and availabi
lity of cyber and cyber-physical systems\n	Information sharing\, data fusi
on and crowdsourcing\n	Data science & AI methods for analysing cyber- and
technology-relevant data\n	Security\, privacy and digital trust technologi
es.\n\nBy encouraging the training of the next generation of leading resea
rchers in Switzerland\, the CYD Fellowships will accelerate the developmen
t of cyber security and privacy solutions\, improving defenders’ capabil
ities vis-à-vis attackers. In fostering synergies between university-base
d researchers and cyber-defence stakeholders and promoting the testing of
new solutions\, they will increase the competitiveness of the Swiss cyber-
defence community.\nFunding is available for six-month CYD Master Thesis F
ellowships (living allowance and research funds)\; four-year (with a possi
ble one-year extension) CYD Doctoral Fellowships (salary and research and
conference funds)\; and up to two-year CYD Distinguished Postdoctoral Fell
owships (salary and research and conference funds). CYD fellows are hosted
by a higher education institution in Switzerland and conduct their resear
ch at the CYD Campus located on the premises of EPFL and ETHZ and in its o
ffice in Thun.\n\nRecently\, the new CYD Proof-of-Concept fellowship progr
amme has been launched. This CYD POC fellowship programme aims to support
applied research leading towards an innovative product or service with the
intention of making a real impact and evaluating the potential for commer
cialization of such products or services. \n\nThe CYD Campus is a cyber-c
ompetence center created by the Swiss Federal Department of Defence\, Civi
l Protection and Sport. It acts as an anticipation platform for identifyin
g and assessing technologies\, commercial and social cyber trends\, as wel
l as the subsequent usage scenarios. It is committed to innovative\, appli
cation-oriented research and works to translate research findings into sol
utions alongside start-ups and the established companies in the field of s
ecurity.\n\nThe CYD Fellowships are supported by armasuisse Science and Te
chnology.\n\nThe eight call for proposals is now open with a rolling call
for Master Thesis Fellowship applications and Proof-of-Concept fellowship
applications\, and with a deadline for Doctoral and Distinguished Postdoct
oral Fellowship applications on 15 August 2023 (17:00 CEST).\nAn online ap
plicant workshop will be held on 20 July 2023 from 10:00 to 10:45 CEST.\n\
