DESCRIPTION:Aim:  The CZI Neurodegeneration Challenge Network (NDCN) was 
 launched in 2018 as a new type of collaborative research network that brin
 gs together biologists\, computational scientists\, engineers\, and physic
 ians from across broad research areas who are motivated by collaboration a
 nd open science to tackle unsolved challenges in neurodegenerative disease
 . To this end\, the network is launching the second call of the CZI Collab
 orative Pairs Pilot Project Awards\, supporting pairs of investigators and
  their teams to explore innovative\, interdisciplinary approaches to addre
 ss critical challenges in the fields of neurodegenerative disease and fund
 amental neuroscience.\n\nFor this new cycle of the Collaborative Pairs\, t
 he scope is broadened to also support investigations in areas of fundament
 al neuroscience beyond neurodegenerative disease\, in particular in areas 
 where there is potential for complementarity or synergy with our existing 
 work in the Neurodegeneration Challenge Network and/or other CZ Science pr
 ogram areas. This expanded RFA scope includes basic investigations into th
 e cellular\, molecular and circuit mechanisms of memory and cognition and 
 the neuroscience of sleep.\n\nCollaborative Pairs teams that ultimately re
 ceive pilot project funding and successfully progress their project will b
 e eligible to apply for an acceleration grant award to continue their work
 .\n \nFunding:       $200\,000\n\nDuration:      18 months\n\n
 Eligibility: Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent\, and must currently
  hold an independent faculty position. The Collaborative Pairs RFA is aime
 d at motivating new collaborations among partners who have not yet had the
  opportunity to work together. At least one of the applicants must be an e
 arly-career investigator or a mid-career investigator in an independent ac
 ademic faculty position or equivalent (see RFA for more details).\n\nHow t
 o Apply: The two-step review process begins with a Letter of Intent\, whic
 h must include project details\, a research statement\, Biosketches\, and 
 an institutional approval form from each host institution.  Please contac
 t the Research Office for organization details and for assistance with the
  institutional approval form. LOI decisions will be announced by 03 August
 \, and full applications will be due by 14 September. Full applications sh
 ould must also include professional references\, a budget\, and a budget j
 ustification. The budget should include 15% overhead charges\; please cont
 act the Research Office with any budget questions. Final notifications wil
