DESCRIPTION:Haohuan Fu - Tsinghua University\nDefined as the fastest compu
ters in the world by the name\, supercomputers have been important tools f
or making scientific discoveries and technology breakthroughs. In this tal
k\, we will introduce a series of Sunway Supercomputers\, which demonstrat
e a superb example of integrating tens of millions of cores into a high-re
solution numerical simulator or a large-scale machine learning engine\, an
d bringing opportunities for widening our knowledge boundaries in various
domains. Application examples include ultra-high-resolution climate modeli
ng and earthquake simulation\, close-to-real-time quantum circuit simulati
on\, and weakly-supervised learning to achieve nation-scale land cover map
ping. Through these examples\, we discuss the key issues and potential of
combining supercomputing and AI technologies for solving the major challen
ges that we face.\n\n\nBio: Haohuan Fu is a professor in the Department of
Earth System Science\, Tsinghua University\, and the deputy director of t
he National Supercomputing Center in Wuxi. Fu has his BE (2003) in CS from
Tsinghua University\, MPhil (2005) in CS from City University of Hong Kon
g\, and PhD(2009) in computing from Imperial College London. His research
work focuses on supercomputing architecture and software\, leading to thre
e ACM Gordon Bell Prizes (nonhydrostatic atmospheric dynamic solver in 201
6\, nonlinear earthquake simulation in 2017\, and random quantum circuit s
 imulation in 2021).\n
