 ng Prof. @ EPFL\nAbstract\nIn this talk\, we will introduce C4-sequences\,
  a novel type of sequence that shares similar optimal autocorrelation prop
 erties with Zadoff-Chu sequences. However\, C4-sequences offer the additio
 nal advantage of being also optimal for several truncation lengths\, provi
 ding flexibility in adapting to different channel conditions without compr
 omising performance. Moreover\, unlike Zadoff-Chu sequences\, the points o
 f a constellation associated with a C4-sequence are not limited to the uni
 t circle. This opens up possibilities for achieving shaping gain\, leading
  to enhanced spectral efficiency.\n\nThe name "C4-sequences" stems for the
  four “C” of: "Constellation\," "Circular\," "Correlation\," and "Cros
 s." The "Cross" refers to the distinctive pattern exhibited by the circula
 r autocorrelation function when represented in the complex plane.\nDuring 
 the talk\, we will explore the construction\, properties\, and diverse app
 lications of C4-sequences. These sequences are particularly well-suited fo
 r rate-adaptive coded/modulation schemes that involve messages with a smal
 l number of bits\, typically ranging from 6 to 12. By combining a truncate
 d C4-sequence modulation as an inner code with a fixed-rate non-binary out
 er code\, highly efficient rate-adaptive communication systems can be achi
 eved. For instance\, when employing a rate 1/3 non-binary error correction
  code over the Galois Field GF(64) in conjunction with a Truncated C4-sequ
 ence\, the proposed rate-adaptive coded-modulation system achieves perform
 ance within 0.2 dB of the Shannon limit across a wide range of signal-to-n
 oise ratios\, spanning from -15 dB up to 10 dB.\n\nAbout the speaker\nEmma
 nuel Boutillon received the Engineering Diploma in 1990 and its Ph.D.degre
 e in 1995\, both from the Telecom Paris Tech\, Paris. From 1995 to 2000\, 
 he was assistant professor in Telecom Paris Tech. In 1998\, he spent a sab
 batical year at the University of Toronto\, Ontario\, Canada. In 2000\, he
  moved to the Université Bretagne Sud (Lorient\, France) as a professor. 
 He headed the LESTER lab from 2005 up to the end of 2007. He was then head
  of CACS department (lab-STICC) until 2016. In 2011\, he had a sabbatical 
 year at INICTEL-UNI\, Lima (Peru).His research interests are on the intera
 ctions between algorithm and architecture in the field of wireless communi
 cations and high speed signal processing. In particular\, he works on Turb
 o Codes and LDPC decoders.\n
