DESCRIPTION:Aim: The mission of the Simons Foundation Autism Research Init
 iative (SFARI) is to improve the understanding\, diagnosis and treatment o
 f autism spectrum disorders (ASD) by funding innovative research of the hi
 ghest quality and relevance. The goal of the Pilot Award is to provide ear
 ly support for exploratory ideas considered higher risk but with the poten
 tial for transformative results\, particularly those with novel hypotheses
  for autism. This funding mechanism is particularly suitable for investiga
 tors new to the autism field\, though applicants  are encouraged to consu
 lt with experts in autism research to ensure their projects are relevant t
 o the human condition. Applicants should propose research to link genetic 
 or other ASD risk factors to molecular\, cellular\, circuit or behavioral 
 mechanisms and set the stage for development of novel interventions.\n\nDu
 ration:      2 years\n\nFunding:       USD $300’000\n\nEligibil
 ity: All applicants and key collaborators must hold a PhD\, MD\, or equiva
 lent degree and have a faculty position or the equivalent.  There are no
