DESCRIPTION:Aim:  Google is committed to supporting innovative research a
 nd professors working to create positive societal impact with technology\,
  particularly in areas relevant to Trust & Safety. In 2023\, Google is loo
 king to fund and actively collaborate with the academic research community
 \, exploring opportunities to expand our knowledge of Trust & Safety conce
 rns.\n\nWe’re seeking research proposals and will provide unrestricted g
 rants to support research efforts across disciplines and areas of interest
  related to Trust & Safety in technology. We welcome proposals from across
  disciplines\, including but not limited to Computer Science\, Legal Studi
 es\, Public Policy\, Social Sciences\, Psychology\, Human-Computer Interac
 tion\, etc. Some of our specific interests in Trust & Safety include:\n \
 n\n	Child and teen safety\, including self-endangering behavior\n	Content 
 moderation\n	Fraud or financial scams\n	Generative AI safety\n	Hate speech
 \, harassment\, or cyberbullying\n	Incitement\, terrorism\, or violent ext
 remism\n	Misinformation or disinformation\n	Non-consensual explicit imager
 y\n	Synthetic or manipulated media\n\n\nFor the 2023 grant\, we’re extre
 mely interested in expanding our knowledge of Trust & Safety concerns acro
 ss EU member states\, so priority will be given to projects that work with
 in an EU context (e.g.\, mapping multilingual misinformation focused on EU
  languages)\, or have at least 1 PI based in an EU institution.\n\nFunding
 :       $100\,000\n\nDuration:      1 year\n\nEligibility:  This
  application is open to professors (assistant\, associate\, etc.) at degre
 e-granting universities and academic research institutions who are advisin
 g students and conducting research. Applicants may only serve as Principal
  Investigator (PI) or co-PI on one proposal per round.  There can be a ma
 ximum of 2 PIs per proposal.\n\nHow to Apply: Proposals should follow the 
 format below\, outlining the research goals\, resource estimates and propo
 sed modalities\, and be no longer than three pages in length (including re
 ferences):\n\n\n	Proposal Title\n	Principal Investigator (PI) full name\, 
 contact information\n	Co-PI’s full names\, contact information\n	Affilia
 tion (university\, school\, college and/or department)\n	Research objectiv
 es/goals/hypothesis\n	Proposed approach\n	Expected impact/benefit to the r
 esearch community\n	Budget: Amount requested\, inclusive of all fees [EPFL
  note: overhead 0%]\n	Disclosure Policy: A short description of what you i
 ntend to do with the output of your project (e.g.\, publications\, open so
 urcing code\, making data sets public\, etc.)\n	Expected results/publicati
 on with timeline (i.e.\, 6 months\, 12 months...)\n	Statement of prior wor
 k\, including a list of relevant publications (2 pages max addendum to pro
 posal - total package including relevant publications and statement of pri
 or work should be 5 pages or fewer)\n\n\nWe request all applications to be
  submitted in English. We expect to send out decision notifications in Oct
 ober 2023. Do not submit any confidential or proprietary information throu
 gh this application as the details of your project proposal will be shared
  with internal and external experts for evaluation.\n\nWe believe strongly
  in open access and in supporting projects whose output will be made avail
 able to the public and to other researchers. For this reason\, we ask appl
 icants Principal Investigators to include a brief statement about what the
 y intend to do with the output of their work\, and we strongly prefer proj
 ects that intend to publish and/or contribute to the academic community.\n
