CATEGORIES:Call for proposal
DESCRIPTION:Aim:  Open source software is critical to modern scientific r
esearch\, advancing biology and medicine while providing reproducibility a
nd transparency. Hundreds of software packages\, libraries\, and applicati
ons have become essential tools for research—so much so that many resear
chers could not continue their work without them. \n \nAt the Chan Zucke
rberg Initiative (CZI)\, we are thrilled to be partnering with Wellcome
and the Kavli Foundation as co-funders for the sixth cycle of the Essen
tial Open Source Software for Science (EOSS) RFA.  We are seeking letters
of intent in support of funding for software projects that are essential
to biomedical research. \n\nThe goal of the EOSS RFA is to support softwa
re maintenance\, growth\, development\, and community engagement for these
critical tools. Ideal applications will have previously demonstrated impa
ct\, currently show potential for continued improvement\, and expect to de
liver added value to the biomedical research community through the propose
 d activities.\n\nFunding:       max. $400\,000\n\nDuration:
2 years\n\nEligibility: Applications may be submitted by non-profit and fo
r-profit organizations\, public and private institutions\, such as college
s\, universities\, hospitals\, laboratories\, units of state and local gov
ernment\, companies\, and eligible agencies of the federal government. App
lications are welcome from any country\, provided the proposed work is com
pliant with the United States Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign As
set Control (OFAC) sanctions program.\n\nHow to Apply: The EOSS RFA will b
e a two-step process: an initial Letter of Intent (LOI)\, followed by invi
tations (expected 02 November) to a select number of applicants to submit
a Full Application. LOIs do not need a full budget\, a finalized list of
personnel\, deliverables\, or institutional sign-off. A subset of the LOI
applicants will be invited to submit a full application. Detailed budgets
are required at the full application stage\, and should include overhead o
f 15%. Institutional Approval Forms are also required at the full applicat
ion stage\; please contact the Research Office for this step.\n \n\n	Dead
 line (LOI) :  17 October 2023 (5:00 pm PT)\n	 \n	Deadline (Full proposal
 \, by invite) :  05 December 2023\n	 \n\nFurther information\n\n\n	Check
out the EOSS project already running at EPFL: DeepLabCut\n	More informati
on about the program is available here\n	The application portal can be fou
nd here\n	For any other questions\, please contact the Research Office\n\n
