 KLY EPFL BIOE TALKS SERIES\n\nAbstract:\nBiomedical research is of central
  importance for Switzerland. For patients\, it is a matter of gaining acce
 ss as quickly as possible to medicines with a high unmet medical need\; fo
 r industry and the research sector\, it is a matter of creating the best p
 ossible framework conditions.\nAs a regulator\, Swissmedic has an importan
 t role to play here\, ensuring that only high-quality\, safe and effective
  medicines come onto the market in Switzerland and thus protecting patient
 s\, but it can also influence the regulatory environment and the way in wh
 ich researchers and industry work together. In this way\, Swissmedic can m
 ake research and the conditions for setting up advanced therapies for appr
 oval in Switzerland more attractive.\nNumerous new approaches and procedur
 es were used during the Covid-19 pandemic. Swissmedic wants to learn lesso
 ns from this\, and what has proved successful is to be transferred to regu
 lar operations. For example\, the exchange of information and advice was g
 reatly intensified during this period. In order to perpetuate this develop
 ment\, Swissmedic is planning to set up an Innovation Office to facilitate
  access to the Institute's regulatory\, scientific and technical knowledge
