DESCRIPTION:EPFL Photonics Chapter (EPC) is pleased to invite you to our
monthly POB (Pizza-Optics-Beer) seminar! It is set to take place on W
 ednesday\, September 27th\, 2023\, at 18:15 in BM 1130.\nFor organizationa
l purposes\, please register for the event using this doodle before Se
 ptember 27th\, 2023.\n\n \n\nThis month\, Deepthy Kavungal will give a t
alk on her work "Breaking Boundaries: ImmunoSEIRA - A Sensor Uniting Nano
photonics\, Biology\, and AI for Neurodegenerative Disease Detection" :\n
\nIn this talk\, a novel infrared metasurface sensor: ImmunoSEIRA - unit
ing the powers of nanotechnology\, biology\, and artificial intelligence f
or neurodegenerative disease detection will be introduced. The sensor is b
ased on plasmonic surface-enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy combin
ed with immunoassay\, which detects alpha-synuclein\, an early structural
biomarker protein for neurodegenerative diseases with clinical specificity
and identifies its different structural species using their unique spectr
oscopic signals. Unprecedentedly\, the sensor is augmented with Deep Neura
l Network\, enabling quantitative differentiation of aSyn aggregates. Capa
ble of multiplexing and retrieving aggregate signatures from complex bioma
trix\, the sensor shows promise for neurodegenerative disease diagnosis\,
disease progression monitoring\, and evaluation of novel therapies.\n\nRef

't know POBs?\nPOBs (Pizza-Optics-Beer) are monthly seminars organized by
the student association EPFL Photonics Chapter.\nA PhD or a postdoc gives
 a 20-minutes presentation about his/her research in photonics\, meanwhile
we serve beers and pizza!\nThe event is free and open to anyone.\n\nWe tha
nk the Doctoral Program in Photonics (EPDO)\, the Society of Photo-Optical
Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE.)\, Optica and SwissPhotonics for their s
 upport.
