  concept of Social Ecology is based on the idea of a  dialectical relatio
 nship between human society and the natural world\, and on the inter-corr
 elation of natural and social evolution\; tensions and contradictions ari
 se when societies exploit or degrade their ecological base\, so that envi
 ronmental and social problems we face today result from hierarchical and e
 xploitative social structures. Karl-Ludwig Schibel has collaborated with B
 ookchin for more than thirty years. He will discuss the fundamental assum
 ptions of Social Ecology and their relevance for understanding and confro
 nting contemporary ecological crisis\, suggesting the transformation of s
 ocial structures toward more egalitarian and ecologically responsible fo
 rms.\n\n\nAbout the speaker\n\nKarl-Ludwig Schibel is a sociologist\, and 
 holds a PhD from Frankfurt University. He has collaborated for more than 3
 0 years with Murray Bookchin. He is also an activist and writer on climate
  change\, climate justice\, and local climate policies. He has taught soci
 al ecology at Frankfurt University\, served on the board of the Climate Al
 liance from 1990 to 2015\, and continues to coordinate the Climate Allianc
 e in Italy. He organizes the annual Fair of Practical Utopias in Città di
  Castello\, which showcases ecological solutions for the economy and socie
 ty.\n\n
