CATEGORIES:Call for proposal
DESCRIPTION:Wellcome Leap's Untangling Addiction initiative seeks to addre
ss the critical gap in the understanding and treatment of substance use di
sorders.\n\nWellcome Leap considers that a new approach is needed that mea
sures and characterises the underlying neural and physiological factors th
at are affected and altered by addiction\, and incorporates that understan
ding into the treatment and tracking of recovery.\n\nA primary objective o
f this funding initiative is to identify biomarkers that can be detected t
hrough non-invasive or minimally invasive methods (e.g. blood tests\, soma
tosensory evoked potentials etc) to facilitate quantitative assessment of
the fundamental changes and neurobiological underpinnings of drug abuse an
d\, ultimately\, to demonstrate increased efficacy of prevention and treat
ment approaches using these quantitative methods.\n\nProposals are require
d for work in one or more of the following thrust areas:\n\n	Thrust Area
1: Comprehensive neurobiological and behavioural measurement\, and modelli
ng of addiction risk and recovery.\n	 \n	Thrust Area 2: Validation and op
timisation of neurobiological biomarkers for SUD and AUD.\n	 \n	Thrust Ar
ea 3: Longitudinal studies of prescription opioid use\, addiction risk tra
jectories and prevention strategies.\n	 \n	Thrust Area 4: Retrospective a
nalysis of broad existing datasets for addiction risk.\n	 \n	Thrust Area
5: Novel interventions.\n\n\nFunding:\nAward amount is dependent on the na
ture of the proposal.\nThere is no pre-set number of awards.\nTotal progra
 m budget is $50 million.\n                       \n
Duration: 36 months\n\nEligibility:\nThe scheme is open to any legal entit
y\, based in any legal jurisdiction\, including academic (universities and
  research institutions)\, government\, non-profit\, for-profit (including
 SMEs and venture-backed) and regulatory/professional organisations.\n\nApp
licants can be based in any country.\n\nHow to Apply:\nApplicants should f
ollow the guidelines (here) and use the abstract template (here)\, and upl
oad their proposal on the application portal which will open on 14 Decembe
 r.\n\nDeadline:\nAbstracts due 21 December 2023 at 11:59pm ET.\n\nFurther
information\n\n\n	More information about the program is available here and
the full program description is available here.\n	The application portal
can be found will open on 14 December\, here.\n\nFor any other questions\,
