 e measures are proposed to minimize the pharmaceutical input. A pilot-scal
 e membrane bioreactor with advanced treatment by powdered activated carbon
  (PAC)  ozone  or photo catalysis (UV/TiO2) was operated at a Swiss canton
 al hospital over one year. Employing robust sampling strategy and quantify
 ing over fifty highly consumed pharmaceuticals by online SPE-LC-MS/MS prov
 ides robust and reliable results. High elimination rates were achieved in 
 the treatments with PAC and ozone. Results are used to support legal decis
 ion if decentralized hospital wastewater treatment is an option for Switze
 rland.
