 EMINAR\n \nAbstract:\nOur research program is focused on understanding th
 e largest class of cell surface proteins in the human body which are refer
 red to as G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). These receptors are intrica
 tely involved in almost every physiological process and approximately one 
 third of the currently prescribed medicines exert their therapeutic effect
 s through these receptors. The overarching theme of our research is to und
 erstand the structure\, function and regulation of GPCRs\, and leverage th
 is information to design and discover novel therapeutics with minimal side
 -effects. Our research program employs cellular\, pharmacological and stru
 ctural biology approaches to elucidate the molecular mechanisms involved i
 n GPCR activation and signaling paradigms with an emphasis on transducer-c
 oupling and biased agonism.\n\nBio:\nDr. Shukla received his M.S. in Biote
 chnology in New Delhi\, and his Ph.D. at the Max Planck Institute of Bioph
 ysics in Frankfurt with Prof. Hartmut Michel (Nobel Laureate\, 1988). Subs
 equently\, he carried out his post-doctoral work with Prof. Robert Lefkowi
 tz (Nobel Laureate\, 2012) at Duke University in North Carolina and Prof. 
 Brian Kobilka (Nobel Laureate\, 2012) at Stanford University in San Franci
 sco. Dr. Shukla is currently a Professor and Sonu Agrawal Memorial Chair i
 n the Department of Biological Sciences and Bioengineering at the Indian I
