DESCRIPTION:The Type 1 Diabetes Grand Challenge is a pioneering partnershi
 p between the Steve Morgan Foundation (SMF)\, JDRF and Diabetes UK that wi
 ll work towards the shared goal of transforming the lives of people with t
 ype 1 diabetes and finding a cure for the condition.\n\nThe ‘Novel Insul
 ins Innovation Incubator’ call is designed to drive transformational the
 rapy development\, so projects are sought that will advance concepts towar
 d clinical development and delivery.\n\nPriority given to high risk/high r
 eward projects that have the potential to move the field in big steps\, no
 t incremental developments. It is not limited to a particular type of nove
 l insulin. Applications investigating any bold concept\, for example gluco
 se responsive insulins\, liver targeted insulins\, monomeric/dimeric insul
 ins etc. are equally welcome. Strong preliminary data should form the basi
 s of any application.\n\nIt is expected that results will be published in 
 peer-reviewed journals to benefit the broader scientific community. If the
  results warrant patenting\, publication will be expected as soon as prote
 ction has been granted.\n\nFunding:\n£500\,000 (up to £1 million may be 
 considered uder exceptional circumstances)\n\nDuration:\n12 months for pha
 se 1.\nPhase 2 will offer a further 3 years of funding of around £3 milli
 on per project if key milestones under phase 1 are met\n\nEligibility:  
  \n\n	Call is open to academic institutions without geographical restrict
 ions.\n	PI must have an internationally competitive research track record 
 in drug design or development.\n\n\nHow to Apply:\nApplicants should submi
 t a Letter of Intent (template here)\, via email to smfgrandchallenge@jdrf
 .org.uk. to provide an overview of their research plan. Shortlisted applic
 ants will be invited to pitch their idea to the Novel Insulins Incubator P
 anel by joining a virtual meeting. Full applications will be reviewed\, an
 d if necessary\, the applicants may be asked to amend their proposals to a
