DESCRIPTION:Cristina MUNARI PROBST\nSustainable development issues have la
tely become a major concern for our society\, leading to a new interest fo
r solar energy use in buildings. The resulting widespread use of solar sys
tems will require all actors in the field to deal at best with the impact
of this new reality on buildings design and cities landscapes. Architects
will have to improve their knowledge\, authorities will have to develop ne
w adapted building and urban regulations\, and manufacturers will have to
develop new products conceived for building integration.\nRecent researche
s in these fields will be presented.\n\nMaria Cristina Munari Probst is a
practicing architect\, researcher and lecturer.\nAfter studying architectu
re at the universities of Venice IUAV (I) and Bath (UK)\, she designed in
2000 one of the first passive houses in Switzerland. She joined EPFL in 20
03 for a PhD in solar thermal integration\, resulting in the book "Archite
ctural integration and design of solar thermal systems"\, Routledge\, 2011
.\nIn the last ten years she participated to international energy tasks an
d worked on the development of several architect oriented solar products\,
tools and solar energy information web-sites.\nShe is at present sub-task
leader of IEA Task 41 “Solar Energy and Architecture”\, and responsib
le for the development of a tool assessing the acceptability of active sol
ar systems at the urban level. She teaches building integration of solar e
nergy systems at EPFL at 3rd year course "Architectural integration of sol
ar energy" and at the course "Indoor environment quality and energy in bui
 ldings".
