CATEGORIES:Call for proposal
DESCRIPTION:Aim: Biological research relies on a range of technologies. Of
these technologies\, direct imaging forms a principal component. The adve
nt of the ‘resolution revolution’ in cryo-electron microscopy has pave
d the way for the determination of previously unattainable three-dimension
al structures such as those of membrane proteins\, large multi-protein com
plexes and more. Furthermore\, it has allowed for visualisation of cellula
r processes such as mRNA translation by ribosomes or the replication of th
e flu virus. More recently\, cryo-electron tomography has enabled high-res
olution visualisation of structures present within bacteria or cells. At l
ower resolution\, optical microscopy has also made important advances in t
he analysis of macromolecular complexes in vivo. Fluorescent labelling of
specific cellular components provides a means to follow cellular interacti
ons in real time\, for example during the infection of human cells by fore
ign invaders\, interactions between T-cells and tumours or the migration o
f cells during development and organogenesis.\n\nThis prize will reward a
team which has made significant advances by taking advantage of the latest
imaging technologies and will present a project concerning the visualisat
ion of phenomena which are as yet “unseen”.\n\nDuration:      not
 communicated\n\nFunding:        EUR 275\,000 as follows:\na) 200\,00
0 € to finance the project.\nb) 25\,000 € awarded to the principal inv
estigator (PI) of the research group.\nc) 50\,000 € (maximum amount paid
upon presentation of supporting documents) for hiring one French or forei
gn postdoctoral researcher to be selected by the PI\, in the two years fol
lowing the attribution of the award.\n\nEligibility:    Open to French a
nd European candidates\n\nHow to Apply: Applications (full requirements av
ailable here) should be sent via the online portal here.\n\nDeadline:
15 February 2024\n\nFurther information\n\n	More information about th
e call is available here\n	The application form can be found here\n	For an
y other questions\, please contact the Research Office\n
