CATEGORIES:Call for proposal
DESCRIPTION:Target ALS is a medical research foundation committed to the s
earch for effective treatments for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)\, a
lso known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Target ALS funds investigators who co
llaborate across scientific disciplines and research constituencies to dri
ve medical breakthroughs for the treatment of ALS.\n\nIn the new Request f
or Proposals titled Basic Biology Consortia\, Target ALS is seeking propos
als focused on understanding fundamental biology of the disease to help un
cover the next wave of therapeutic targets for sporadic ALS.\n\nWhile all
proposals studying sporadic ALS are welcome\, Target ALS is particularly i
nterested in supporting projects that propose the study of:\n \n\n	Geneti
c risk factors\n	Altered proteostasis and autophagy pathways\n	Lipid and m
itochondrial dysregulation\n	Central and peripheral inflammation\n	Ferropt
osis and mechanisms regulating cell survival\n	Neural circuits\n	Environme
ntal risk factors\n\n\nFunding:\n$130\,000 per lab per year (not to exceed
  a total of $500K / year)\n\nDuration:\n24 months (possible 12 months in a
ddition based on progress)\n\nEligibility:\nThis call is focused on bringi
ng investigators together to work collaboratively on ALS biology with the
aim of identifying novel therapeutic targets for sporadic ALS. Only collab
orative projects will be considered. Collaborative projects for this call
comprise groups of 3-5 laboratories working around a common research theme
or target.\n\nHow to Apply:\nThe two-step application process begins with
a Letter of Intent. The letter of intent can be filled in directly on the
application portal\, with three questions to be answered (see below for t
he list of questions). Select applicants will be notified in March 2024 an
d invited to submit a full proposal. At the full proposal stage\, a detail
ed budget is required. Budgets can include researcher salaries and fringe
 benefits\, materials and consumables\, equipment\, and overhead of 15%.\n\
 nDeadline\, LOI:                      08 February 2024
 \nDeadline\, Full Proposal:     30 April 2024\n\nFurther information\n\
n\n	More information about the program is available here\n	The application
portal can be found here\n	For any other questions\, please contact the R
 esearch Office\n\n\nLetter of Intent Questions\n           \n\n
Clearly identify the scientists involved with a short paragraph about the
expected contribution of each individual. (up to 250 words)\n	Define a se
t of scientific objectives (specific aims) with explicit milestones. (up t
o 625 words)\n	Describe how the project will focus on understanding fundam
ental biology of the disease to help uncover the next wave of therapeutic
targets for sporadic ALS. (up to 125 words)\n
