  Lunch!\n\nWe are excited to announce that the next Scala Lunch will featu
 re a talk by Andy Wingo entitled "A New Hope: Compiling Managed Languages 
 to WebAssembly". In this talk\, Andy will discuss how compiling to WebAsse
 mbly opens up opportunities for Scala programs to run in web browsers\, ed
 ge\, cloud\, and embedded environments. He will share insights on the new 
 "GC" extension to Wasm and the experience of writing a production compiler
  targeting Wasm/GC from Scheme. Andy will cover compilation strategy\, pai
 n points\, and upcoming developments.\n\nAndy Wingo is a compiler engineer
  at Igalia with 12 years of experience\, primarily working on the JavaScr
 ipt and WebAssembly run-time systems in Chrome and Firefox browsers. He is
  also involved in maintaining the Guile implementation of Scheme and has r
 ecently developed a Scheme-to-WebAssembly/GC compiler for Spritely Institu
 te. Andy is based in Annemasse\, France.\n\nJoin us on 08/02/2024 at BC410
