  and participation in science for women and girls\, the United Nations Gen
 eral Assembly declared February 11 as the International day of Women and 
 Girls in Science in 2015” (from the UN website).\nCECAM honors this imp
 ortant occasion with a special afternoon dedicated to women who contribute
 d to our field and beyond.\n\nWe start with a conversation between Shobhan
 a Narasimhan (JNCASR\, Jakkur\, Bangalore) and Virginie de Mestral (ETH Zu
 rich)\, who will share with us experiences and perspectives based on their
  remarkable professional journeys. Ample time will be provided for interac
 tions with the audience – that we really hope will be diverse and engage
 d – to enable a broad discussion\, hopefully bringing different points o

 kers:\nShobhana Narasimhan\, JNCASR\, Jakkur\, Bangalore:\nShobhana Narasi
 mhan obtained her MSc from IIT Bombay (where she was the Institute Silver 
 Medallist)\, and an MA and PhD from Harvard University. She did postdoctor
 al work at Brookhaven National Laboratory\, USA\, and the Fritz Haber Inst
 itut\, Berlin\, Germany. She is currently also an Anna Boyksen Fellow at t
 he Institute for Advanced Study\, Technical University Munich\, Germany. S
 he has been elected as an International Honorary Member to the American Ac
 ademy of Arts and Science. She was named a fellow of the American Physical
  Society.\n\nVirginie de Mestral\, ETH Zurich:\nVirginie de Mestral was an
  INSPIRE Potentials Master student in the group of Mathieu Luisier. She is
  now continuing at the PhD level in the same group. You can read an inter
