DESCRIPTION:The Velux Stiftung Call for proposals: Ophthalmology Research 
 in Low- and Middle-Income Countries 2024 is now open\n\nScope:\n1) Institu
 tional research capacity strengthening projects: projects aiming at sustai
 nably building\, developing\, or reinforcing institutional structures enab
 ling biomedical/clinical ophthalmology research in Low and Middle Income C
 ountries (LMICs).\n2) Interdisciplinary biomedical research projects in op
 hthalmology aiming to develop and validate new diagnostic\, prevention\, o
 r treatment methods for eye diseases adapted to the local context and envi
 ronment of LMICs. Such projects must also contribute to some extent to str
 engthen research capacities of the institutions in LMICs.\n\nOut of scope:
 \n- projects with main focus on health systems / services research\, imple
 mentation research / intervention science\, health economics or community 
 development\, training\, education\, capacity building for eye care or res
 earch to improve this process.\n\nFunding:\nCHF 50’000 to 100’000 per 
 year. At least 50 % of the funding must be used in LMICs. (Total budget: C
 HF 2 Mio reserved for the call)\n\nDuration of the projects: 1 to 4 years.

 ovember 2024\n\nEligible applicants:\nConsortia of research groups:\n- at 
 least one partner based in a LMIC\n- Involvement of a Swiss partner welcom
 e but partner in a high-income country is not mandatory.\n- Most of the re
 search should take place in one or several LMICs.\n- at least one PI or co
 -PI is an established (R3) or leading researcher (R4) in ophthalmology acc
 ording to the European Framework for research careers.\n- A member of the 
 LMIC research institution's executive / leadership team (member of senior 
 management and decision-making body) should be included in the project tea
 m as PI or co-PIs.\n\nAdditional information:\n- Full call document availa
