CATEGORIES:Call for proposal
DESCRIPTION:AI is one of the most powerful technologies of our time1 and D
OE is at the forefront of research and development in AI technologies for
enabling scientific discovery and innovation. Core components of the scien
tific method remain unchanged: Observation\, Hypothesis\, Experiments\, an
d Analysis. However\, DOE recognizes that abundant sources of data\, high-
 performance computing (HPC) and networking\, energy-efficient algorithms\,
and AI-related technologies can be harnessed to significantly accelerate
and expand the impact of scientific research. To this end\, the DOE SC pro
gram in Advanced Scientific Computing Research (ASCR) hereby announces its
interest in basic computer science and applied mathematics research in th
e fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for science. Specifically\,
advancements in this area are sought that can enable the development of:\
n\n	Foundation models for computational science\;\n	Automated scientific w
orkflows and laboratories\;\n	Scientific programming and scientific-knowle
 dge-management systems\;\n	Federated and privacy-preserving training for f
oundation and other AI models for science\; and\n	Energy-efficient AI algo
rithms and hardware for science\n\n\nFunding:       max. $350K/year p
 er applicant institution\n\nDuration:      3 years\n\nEligibility: All
types of applicants are eligible to apply. Non-domestic (Non-US) applican
ts are advised that successful applications from non-domestic applicants i
nclude a detailed demonstration of how the applicant possesses skills\, re
sources\, and abilities that do not exist among potential domestic (US) ap
plicants.\n\nHow to Apply:  The first step in the 2-step application proc
ess is the submission of a pre-application\, which should include a cover
 sheet\, a clear hypothesis\, a description of the objectives\, and a manda
tory list of excluded reviewers. Pre-applications submitted in response to
DE-FOA-0003264 must be submitted via the PAMS platform. If invited for a
full proposal\, these should be submitted via grants.gov\; If needed\, con
tact the Research Office to have your grants.gov account affiliated with E
PFL. At the full proposal stage\, the budget should be created using the S
F-424 R&R Budget form\; for assistance\, please reach out to the Research
 Office. \n\nDeadline\, Pre-application: 19 March 2024 (5 pm ET)\n\nFurther
information\n\n\n	Funding Opportunity Announcement number: DE-FOA-0003264
\n	More information about the program is available here\n	Abstracts can be
submitted on the PAMS platform\n	For any other questions\, please contact
  the Research Office\n
