DESCRIPTION:Extremely unequal income and wealth conditions are a recurring
  source of conflict and an ongoing hindrance to human development. Scienti
 fic research into the phenomenon of wealth is therefore a central element 
 in understanding social transformation processes. With the funding initiat
 ive "Perspectives on Wealth"\, the Volkswagen Foundation aims to initiate 
 a shift of perspective from poverty research to facets surrounding the phe
 nomenon of wealth.\n\nPossible research questions and topics include\, but
  are not limited to:\n\n	What impact does wealth have on (infra-)structure
 s\, organizations\, and political and economic systems? What impacts can b
 e observed with regard to individuals’ lived realities\, societies and (
 social\, geographic) mobility?\n	What impact does wealth have on self-perc
 eptions and the perception of others? How is wealth presented\, put in sce
 ne\, or hidden and what repercussions does this have? How is wealth effect
 ively (or not effectively) put to use (e.g. in philanthropy\, CSR)?\n	Othe
 r possible topics: (global) financial markets and flows\, (global) elites\
 , entrepreneurship\, and trickle-down effects.\n\n\nThe funding offer targ
 ets (inter-)national research groups of up to five equally participating p
 artners. An interdisciplinary cooperation with partners from natural\, lif
 e\, data or engineering sciences is possible. Further: a cooperation with 
 international partners from LMICs is explicitly welcomed\; transdisciplina
 ry teams are possible. \n\nFunding:       max. €1.5M (for up to 5
  partners)\n\nDuration:      max. 4 years\n\nEligibility: Funding can
  be provided for the constitution of international research groups compris
 ed of up to 5 principal investigators (PIs). The main applicant needs to h
 ave completed their PhD degree in either a humanities\, a social or cultur
 al science subject and be affiliated with a German university or research 
 institution. Scholars at all career levels post-PhD are eligible to apply.
