DESCRIPTION:Prof Guy Genin\, WUSL\nAbstract: \nIn the dynamic environment
 s of tissues\, mechanical forces play a crucial role in shaping cell behav
 ior and function. Our research aims to decode and control the mechanisms b
 y which cells perceive\, store\, and respond to these mechanical cues\, a 
 process known as mechanotransduction. By integrating experiment with multi
 scale computational modeling\, we are developing a predictive understandin
 g of how cells and their surrounding extracellular matrix interact and ada
 pt recursively to mechanical stimuli. Results show that mechanotransductio
 n can be controlled to govern how cells respond to mechanical stress\, wit
 h feedback loops between cells and matrix driving molecular and genetic sw
 itches. The talk will focus on our multiscale modeling approaches\, linkin
 g subcellular\, cellular\, and tissue scale phenomena\, and their applicat
 ion to regenerative medicine and wound healing applications.\n\n\nBiograph
 y: \nGuy M. Genin applies fundamental concepts from engineering to contro
 l and probe living systems.  His work advances surgical techniques\, mole
 cular detection\, and therapies for inflammation\, wound healing\, and fib
 rosis. Genin serves as the Harold and Kathleen Faught Professor of Mechani
 cal Engineering at Washington University\, with appointments in Biomedical
  Engineering and Neurological Surgery. Genin co-directs the NSF Science an
 d Technology Center for Engineering Mechanobiology and serves on the U.S. 
 Interagency Modeling and Analysis Group's steering committee and the Socie
 ty of Engineering Science Board of Directors. A fellow of ASME\, AIMBE\, I
 AMBE\, and the U.S. National Academy of Inventors\, Genin is chief enginee
 r of Caeli Vascular\, Inc. At Xi'an Jiaotong University\, he serves as Tho
 usand Talents Plan Professor of Life Sciences\, and at Tsinghua University
  he is Distinguished Visiting Professor. Additional disclosures are availa

 al. Genin is the recipient of awards including a Research Career Award fro
 m the NIH\; the Changjiang Scholar Award from the Chinese Ministry of Educ
 ation\; the Eads Medal from the St. Louis Academy of Science\; and the Ska
 lak Award and Woo Medal from the ASME. He earned bachelor's and master's d
 egrees from Case Western Reserve University and master's and doctoral degr
 ees from Harvard\, and completed postdoctoral training at Cambridge and Br
 own.
