DESCRIPTION:Prof. Manuela Brunner\n\n\nProf. Tom Beucler\n\n\n\n\nThis sem
inar will be held in hybrid format\, online and in person at the GEO-1620
\, UNIL campus. It is organised in collaboration with the Expertise Cente
r for Climate Extremes (ECCE).\n \n\nClimate and reservoir influences on
droughts\, floods\, and their transitions\nPresented by Prof. Manuela Brun
ner\, Institute for Atmospheric and Climate Science\, ETHZ & WSL\n\n\nThe
frequency and magnitude of hydrological extremes\, namely\, droughts\, flo
ods\, and their transitions\, are undergoing change. In this talk\, I show
how these different types of extremes are responding to climate change an
d how they are influenced by water regulation\, specifically reservoirs. I
n addition\, I discuss potential adaptation approaches to ongoing and futu
re changes in hydrologic extremes.\n \n\n\nTropical precipitation in a ch
anging climate\nPresented by Prof. Tom Beucler\, Head of the Data-Driven A
 tmospheric & Water Dynamics laboratory\, FGSE\, UNIL\n\n\nHeavy precipitat
ion causes severe flooding and water storage issues across the globe\, esp
ecially in the Tropics where most of the vulnerable world population resid
es. Understanding and accurately representing precipitation processes in t
ropical regions is therefore crucial for improving forecasting tools in th
e Tropics and global Earth system models used for climate projections.\n\n
