CATEGORIES:Conferences - Seminars
DESCRIPTION:Prof. Sylvain Gigan\,\nLaboratoire Kastler-Brossel\, Sorbonne
Université\, Paris\, France\nThe seminar will take place in the main audi
torium in Neuchâtel Campus (MC A1 272) and will be simultaneously broad
casted in ELA 1.\n\nCoffee and cookies will be served at 13:00 before the
seminar\, next to the two auditoriums. \n\n\nAbstract\nOptics opens excit
ing perspectives for low energy and ultrafast information processing. In M
achine Learning\, optics is naturally well suited to implement layers of n
eural networks. However\, most demonstrations of optical machine learning
to date are limited to limited size\, single layer networks\, and to rela
tively simple tasks. I will show how multiple scattering of light allows p
erforming optically a key operation in machine learning: large scale rando
m matrix multiplication\, and discuss how we can extend this concept beyon
d single layers operations\, and to modern machine learning tasks. \n\nBi
o\nSylvain Gigan is Professor of Physics at Sorbonne Université in Paris\
, and group leader in Laboratoire Kastler-Brossel\, at Ecole Normale Supé
rieure (ENS\, Paris). His research interests focus on light propagation in
complex media\, and range from fundamental investigations\, biomedical im
aging\, computational imaging\, signal processing\, to quantum information
. He is also the cofounder of a spin-off: LightOn (www.lighton.ai) develop
ing optical computing solutions for machine learning.
