DESCRIPTION:Bingxin Chu\nThe EPFL Photonics Chapter (EPC) is very please
d to announce and cordially invite you to our monthly ‘Pizza-Optics-Bee
r’ (POB) seminar on July 3rd\, at 18:15 in room CO 122.\n\n\n\nTh
is month we will have the pleasure to host Bingxin Chu - Julia Jacobi Cha
ir of Photomedicine from Laboratory for fundamental BioPhotonics with the
presentation entitled:\n\n"Evolution of the electrical double layer with
electrolyte concentration probed by Second Harmonic Scattering"\n\nFor org
anizational purposes (if you want to eat pizza!)\, please confirm your pa
rticipation using this Doodle.\nDon’t hesitate to extend the invitation
to any postdoc and colleague!\n\nHope to see you there\,\nThe team of the
EPFL Photonics Chapter\n\n\n\nAbstract:\nInterfaces buried in aqueous sol
utions significantly influence the properties of the system. Investigating
the electrical double layer (EDL) structure\, which commonly appears near
charged surfaces\, has been a long-standing challenge as following sophis
ticated properties of the EDL is not straightforward. Polarimetric angle-r
esolved second-harmonic scattering (AR-SHS) is an all-optical tool enablin
g the study of unlabeled interfaces of nanosized particles and objects in
an aqueous solution. This technique utilizes the interactions between ligh
t and matter\, specifically through the spontaneous electron cloud of wate
r molecules oriented near the surface of the scatterer. This talk will pro
vide an overview of the principle of the AR-SHS technique\, discussing its
fundamental principles and methodological studies on its size dependence.
It will then focus on the application of this technique in probing the ev
olution of the EDL thickness with increasing ionic concentration at the mo
 lecular level.\n\n\n\nYou don't know POBs?\nPOBs (Pizza-Optics-Beer) are m
onthly seminars organized by the student association EPFL Photonics Chapte
 r.\nA PhD or a postdoc gives a 20-minutes presentation about his/her resea
rch in photonics. Discussions continue informally around pizza and beers!\
nThe event is free and open to anyone.\n\nIf you want to receive our newsl
 etter (events\, updates\, and more...)\n\n© 2024 EPFL\n\n\n\nWe thank the
Doctoral Program in Photonics (EPDO)\, the Society of Photo-Optical Inst
rumentation Engineers (SPIE.)\, Optica and SwissPhotonics for their su
 pport.\n\n
