DESCRIPTION:Aim: RFA seeks to support research projects aiming to advance
  the development of next generation beta cell replacement therapies for ty
 pe 1 diabetes by leveraging advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) a
 nd machine learning (ML).\n\nExamples of topics pertinent to this call inc
 lude\, but are not limited to:\n\n	Improving the function and/or survival 
 of renewable sources of insulin-producing cells (e.g. stem cell-derived is
 lets).\n	Developing immune protection strategies to prevent rejection of t
 ransplanted cells that do not rely on chronic systemic immunosuppression.\
 n	Establishing methods of predicting transplanted cell survival and functi
 on prior to decline in c-peptide levels or glycaemic control.\n	Implicatio
 ns of a specific therapeutic approach (cell type and protection strategy\,
  site of implantation) for efficacy\, safety and patient selection.\n\nFun
 ding: $750\,000\n\nDuration: 3 years\n\nEligibility: Applications may be s
 ubmitted by domestic (US) and foreign non-profit organizations and public 
 and private entities\, such as universities\, colleges\, hospitals\, labor
 atories\, units of state and local governments and\, where relevant\, elig
 ible agencies of the federal government.\n\nApplicants must hold an MD\, D
 MD\, DVM\, PhD\, or equivalent degree\, and hold a faculty position or equ
 ivalent at a college\, university\, medical school or other research facil
 ity. There are no citizenship requirements\n\nHow to Apply: Applicants sho
