 \nThe seminar will take place in BM 5202 and will be simultaneously broad

 d at 13:00 before the seminar.\n\nAbstract\nEpilepsy is a severe and chron
 ic neurological disorder that affects over 65 million people worldwide. Ye
 t current seizure/epilepsy detection and treatment mainly rely on a physic
 ian interviewing the subject\, which is not effective in infant/children g
 roup. Moreover\, patient-to-patient and age-to-age variation on seizure pa
 ttern make such detection particularly challenging. To expand the benefici
 ary group to even infants and also to effectively adapt to each patient\, 
 a wearable form-factor\, the patient-specific system with machine learning
  is of crucial. However\, the wearable environment is challenging for circ
 uit designers due to unstable skin-electrode interface\, huge mismatch\, a
 nd static/dynamic offset.\n\nThis lecture will cover the design strategies
  of patient-specific epilepsy detection System-on-Chip (SoC). We will firs
 t explore the difficulties\, limitations\, and potential pitfalls in weara
 ble interface circuit design and strategies to overcome such issues. Start
 ing from a basic instrumentation amplifier (IA)\, we will cover various IA
  circuit topologies to deal with offset compensation. Moving on\, we will 
 cover the feature extraction and the patient-specific and patient-independ
 ent classification using Machine Learning technique. Finally\, connecting 
 wearable sensors through Body-Area Network\, both on communication and on 
 powering aspect\, will be discussed. The lecture will conclude with intere
 sting opportunities that lie ahead.\n\nBio\nJerald Yoo (S’05-M’10-SM
 ’15) received the B.S.\, M.S.\, and Ph.D. degrees in Department of Elect
 rical Engineering from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technol
 ogy (KAIST)\, Daejeon\, Korea\, in 2002\, 2007\, and 2010\, respectively.\
 n\nFrom 2010 to 2016\, he was with the Department of Electrical Engineerin
 g and Computer Science\, Masdar Institute\, Abu Dhabi\, United Arab Emirat
 es\, where he was an Associate Professor. From 2010 to 2011\, he was also 
 with the Microsystems Technology Laboratories (MTL)\, Massachusetts Instit
 ute of Technology (MIT) as a visiting scholar. Between 2017 and 2024\, he 
 was with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering\, National 
 University of Singapore\, Singapore\, as an Associate Professor. Since 202
 4\, he has been with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
 \, Seoul National University\, where he is currently an Associate Professo
 r. He has pioneered research on Body-Area Network (BAN) transceivers for c
 ommunication/powering and wearable body sensor network using the planar-fa
 shionable circuit board for a continuous health monitoring system. He auth
 ored book chapters in Biomedical CMOS ICs (Springer\, 2010)\, Enabling the
  Internet of Things—From Circuits to Networks (Springer\, 2017)\, The Io
 T Physical Layer (Chapter 8\, Springer\, 2019) and Handbook of Biochips (B
 iphasic Current Stimulator for Retinal Prosthesis\, Springer\, 2021). His 
 current research interests include low-energy circuit technology for weara
 ble bio-signal sensors\, flexible circuit board platform\, BAN for communi
 cation and powering\, ASIC for piezoelectric Micromachined Ultrasonic Tran
 sducers (pMUT)\, and System-on-Chip (SoC) design to system realization for
  wearable healthcare applications.\n\nDr. Yoo is an IEEE Solid-State Circu
 its Society (SSCS) Distinguished Lecturer (2024-2025 and 2017-2018). He al
 so served an IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CASS) Distinguished Lectur
 er (2019-2021). He is the recipient or a co-recipient of several awards: I
 EEE International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) 2020 and 2022 De
 monstration Session Award (Certificate of Recognition)\, IEEE Internationa
 l Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS) 2015 Best Paper Award (BioCAS 
 Track)\, ISCAS 2015 Runner-Up Best Student Paper Award\, the Masdar Instit
 ute Best Research Award in 2015 and the IEEE Asian Solid-State Circuits Co
 nference (A-SSCC) Outstanding Design Award (2005). He was the founding vic
 e-chair of the IEEE SSCS United Arab Emirates (UAE) Chapter and is the cha
 ir of the IEEE SSCS Singapore Chapter. He currently serves an Executive Co
 mmittee of the IEEE International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC)\
 , and has served/serves as TPC member of ISSCC Student Research Preview (C
 hair)\, IEEE Asian Solid-State Circuits Conference (A-SSCC\, Emerging Tech
 nologies\, and Applications Subcommittee Chair)\, IEEE Custom Integrated C
 ircuits Conference (Emerging Technologies Subcommittee Chair)\, IEEE Sympo
 sium on VLSI Circuits\, and an Analog Signal Processing Technical Committe
