DESCRIPTION:Clemence Lanfranchi Andrzej Wiech Aleksei Kashuba Alfonso² Pe
terssen\n\n\nMeet Your Future Employer : Oracle Labs Tech Talk & 1:1 Info
Sessions\n\nORACLE invites you to join them for an exclusive insight into
Oracle Labs and for an overview of their internship opportunities on Tuesd
 ay\, 17 September 2024 at 5.15 p.m. in room BC410.\n\n1. ORACLE Labs Pre
sentation & Tech Talk (open to all): from 5.15 p.m. to 6.15 p.m.\n\nOracle
Labs is a research center where big parts of Oracle's innovation take pl
ace. The research areas span most fields of computer science\, and small p
roject ideas can turn into large open-source projects or Oracle products w
hen they mature.\nIn this presentation\, four members of Oracle Labs will
talk about the innovation happening at the Labs. After an introduction of
the core mission and an overview of all research projects in the Labs\, th
ey will dive deeper into four topics: \n> Automated Generation of Fine-tu
ning Data using LLMs\nOne major way to improve a Large Language Model (LLM
) is to perform supervised fine-tuning or preference alignment to fix the
identified issues. However\, this fixing step requires many high-quality t
raining samples that target the issues to solve\, and collecting such samp
les can be very time and cost intensive since they are usually manually cu
rated by skilled developers. In this talk\, you'll see how they leverage L
LMs to synthetically generate high-quality fine-tuning data that can be us
ed to improve models on business applications.\n> Manage Software Supply C
hain Security in the Cloud\nThe Application Platform project's mission is
to research and develop solutions\, services\, and tools to reduce the eff
ort and human labor required to develop and operate Java apps in the Cloud
. Application Platform's first cloud service is Application Dependency Man
agement (ADM): Oracle's Software Composition Analysis on the Cloud. In thi
s talk\, they will discuss some of the challenges and problems faced when
building a cloud service at a hyper-scale\, as well as some explorations w
e are doing to improve the security\, performance\, and operations of Java
apps on the cloud.\n> RDBMS as the Foundation of a Data-Centric Applicati
on Runtime\nOracle's hypothesis is that application development and data s
cience can benefit from running code as close to the data as possible.  T
he focus of their work is to enable Oracle Database to execute data-centri
c workloads written in modern and popular languages and frameworks. They w
ill talk about how they leverage GraalVM to realize this vision\, as well
as their efforts to evolve Oracle Database into a comprehensive compute pl
atform for serverless applications.\n> GraalVM: A story about compilers\,
 meta-circularity\, and LLMs\nThis presentation introduces GraalVM\, once h
ailed as the "One VM to rule them all\," and its impact on modern compiler
technology. They'll explore how GraalVM\, through its Graal compiler and
Truffle framework\, revolutionizes language interoperability and performan
ce. The talk will highlight Espresso\, a meta-circular Java bytecode inter
 preter\, as a key example of GraalVM's capabilities. Finally\, they'll dis
cuss the potential synergies between GraalVM and Large Language Models (LL
 Ms).\n\n>> Biography of Oracle's speakers here\n \n2. 1:1 Information Ses
sions (apply by uploading your CV)  from 6.40 p.m.\n\nOracle invites you
to participate in an individual discussion with one of their engineers to
learn more about their labs and research\, internship opportunities proje
cts\, and to ask any specific questions you may have.\n\nIf you are intere
sted in participating in the 1 to 1 information sessions\, please upload y
 our CV during the registration process\, by Friday\, 6 September 2024\, a
t the latest. Oracle will contact selected students for scheduling their i
nformation session.\nEncountering issues during registration? Reach out to
