 f buildings represent a large amount of the energy needs and are one of th
 e signicant sources of CO2. Energy geostructures are a sustainable soluti
 on to this problem and constitute a renewable and environment-friendly res
 ource. Any structure in contact with the ground can be used to satisfy the
  energy requirements of the overall facility to which the structures belon
 g. Energy piles are the most widely used. A system of pipes installed with
 in the concrete\, with a heat carrier uid that circulates through it\, ca
 n extract heat from the ground to satisfy the need for heat during the win
 ter and can expel excess heat resulting from air conditioning during the s
 ummer. Consequently\, the geostructure is subjected to an additional therm
 al load\, which results in additional stresses\, strains and settlements t
 o be considered in the design practice. The recent advancements concerning
  the long term thermo-mechanical behaviour of energy piles and the eects 
 of temperature on the dierent aspects involved in their geotechnical desi
 gn are presented.
