DESCRIPTION:Prof. Eva Blasco\, Heidelberg University\, Germany\nCoffee and
cookies will be served at 13:00 before the seminar.\n\nAbstract\n4D print
ing has become a promising tool for the fabrication of dynamic and adaptiv
e structures. During the last years\, promising examples of defined 4D mic
rostructures employing stimuli-responsive materials have been shown using
 two-photon 3D laser printing. In this lecture\, I will present the state-o
f-the art of the the field with emphasis on the design of new responsive m
aterials enabling the preparation of adaptive and structures. In particula
r\, hydrogels\, shape memory polymers as well as liquid crystal elastomers
will be discussed. For example\, simple and versatile formulations has be
en developed enabling complex microstructures with remarkable responsive a
nd shape memory properties. Also\, multi-responsive structures using photo
responsive liquid crystal elastomers\, were demonstrated. Furthermore\, w
e have exploited the inclusion of dynamic and living bonds in a printable
formulation enabling the creation of microstructures with „life-like”
characteristics such as adaptability by tunable shape and mechanical prope
rties. Last\, sustainability aspect in the design of new materials of 3D/4
D printing will discussed.\n\n\nBio\nEva Blasco studied chemistry at the U
niversity of Zaragoza (Spain)\, where she also completed her doctorate. Sh
e then received an Alexander von Humboldt Postdoctoral Research Fellowship
in 2014\, with which she carried out her research in the groups of Prof.
 C. Barner-Kowollik (Polymer Chemistry) and Prof. M. Wegener (Physics) at t
he Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Germany. During this time\,
she spent a research stay in Brisbane (Australia) and subsequently worked
as a group leader at KIT. In October 2020\, she was appointed Junior Profe
ssor at Heidelberg University and in January 2023 she was appointed W3 Pro
fessor at the newly founded Institute for Molecular Systems Engineering an
d Advanced Materials (IMSEAM).\nShe has published more than 100 publicatio
ns and has been awarded several prizes (e.g. Ernst-Haage and Dr.-Hermann-S
chnell (GDCh) prizes in 2022 or the Young Investigator Award of the Spanis
h Chemical Society in 2023) and this year with the Advance Science Young I
nnovator Awards.\nFurthermore\, Prof. Eva Blasco is project leader (PI) an
d since October 2023 co-spokesperson in the Cluster of Excellence 3D Matte
r Made to Order (3DMM2O).\nHer research interests include the development
of new functional and sustainable polymer materials for 3D and 4D printing
\, especially on the micro- and nanoscale.\n
