CATEGORIES:Conferences - Seminars
DESCRIPTION:You can apply to participate and find all the relevant informa
 tion (speakers\, abstracts\, program\,...) on the event website: https://
 www.cecam.org/workshop-details/greening-ai-with-software-engineering-1358
.\n\n\nRegistration is required to attend the full event\, take part in
the social activities and present a poster at the poster session (if any).
However\, the EPFL community is welcome to attend specific lecture
s without registration if the topic is of interest to their research. Do n
ot hesitate to contact the CECAM Event Manager if you have any question.
\n\nDescription\nKey Topics to be Covered:\n\n	Adjusting the Software life
cycle to include Green AI. This topic delves into the integration of Green
AI principles within the entire software development life cycle. It addre
sses the need for a holistic approach\, emphasizing the importance of inco
rporating eco-friendly considerations not only in the coding phase but als
o during design\, testing\, deployment\, and maintenance. By aligning the
software development life cycle with sustainable practices\, we can ensure
that the entire process contributes to environmental conservation.\n	Carb
on-Aware AI/Software Development. Raise awareness regarding current best p
ractices among developers about the environmental impact of software and g
uide them in crafting code with minimized carbon footprints. This involves
  optimizing algorithms\, selecting energy-efficient platforms\, and consid
ering the environmental implications throughout the software development l
ife cycle.\n	Education of Green AI/Software. We want to discuss how the co
mputer science curriculums need to be adjusted in order to make the next g
eneration of tech professionals aware of energy efficiency development pra
ctices. We also want to use this workshop as an opportunity to create a hu
b to share educational content that can help teach Sustainable Software En
gineering worldwide.\n	Strengthening Social Impact of Sustainable Tech. By
inviting researchers from social science disciplines to the workshop\, we
aim to spark a meaningful interdisciplinary discussion on extending the i
nfluence of our current research beyond academic realms\, actively engagin
g with social communities and the general public. The goal is to provide a
ccessible tools for informed decision-making regarding interactions with c
arbon-intensive software applications. Through the discourse\, we seek to
explore innovative ways of improving the communication and dissemination o
f our findings\, fostering a collective effort to make impactful strides t
 owards a more sustainable\, environmentally conscious\, and cost-efficient
  digital future.\n\n \nFormat and Structure:\nThe workshop will consist o
 f 1 or 2 thought-provoking talks per day\, followed by panel discussions\,
hands-on sessions\, and collaborative working groups. Emphasis will be pl
aced on fostering active participation and facilitating meaningful dialogu
e among participants.\nExpected Impact:\nThis workshop aims to catalyze th
e development of an interdisciplinary community dedicated to advancing gre
en software and AI research. It will not only contribute to academic knowl
edge but also provide actionable insights for industry professionals to im
plement sustainable practices in their respective domains.\nWe anticipate
that this workshop will be a seed for the research community to shape the
research agenda in Green AI and promote collaboration with leading organiz
ations\, industry partners\, and environmental advocacy groups to challeng
e the frontiers of our research. This CECAM-Lorentz workshop “Greening A
I with Software Engineering” is timely and aligns with the pressing need
for sustainable technological development. Our diverse\, multidisciplinar
y and highly knowledgeable team is committed to organizing a high-quality
event that fosters collaboration and drives positive change.
